Is mailparser.io secure? What about sensitive and confidential data inside emails?

We take data security very seriously and our system is compliant with the latest web security standards. For example, this means that we use full SSL encryption between our server and you once you are logged in. If you download data from our software, it is also transferred SSL encrypted. And of course, all passwords are stored as hashed keys and not in plain text. Just to name a few basics.
All information found on this page represents a quick overview of how we handle things at mailparser.io. More detailed resources are linked below or can be consulted here:  Security StatementPrivacy PolicyTerms of ServiceLegal Notice.

Do you have a Security Statement?

Yes, we do! Our  Security Statement explains our procedures and provides detailed information on data security.

What data do you store and for how long?

Once we receive an email from you it is usually processed within one minute. From this moment on, we store the parsed data fields in our database and the file attachments on our Amazon S3 storage. The original email file is of ephemeral nature and will typically be deleted from our servers beyond recall after a couple of hours.

You can find a detailed list of the data we store here. Please also read this article on how long we store your data. Also, please consult our Privacy Policy regarding the data we store for your user account.

How secure is transferring data by email in general?

There is one important thing to keep in mind: By definition, all incoming data is delivered by email to mailparser.io. Unfortunately, the email protocol itself is not a secure form of transportation.
Chances are high that you're already sending your data by email from one point to another right now. This means, that adding  mailparser.io to your stack does not add any additional security risk as the weak part in the chain is the email protocol.
Once your data is in our system, it's protected with industry-standard security measurements (SSL encryption, managed servers, ...).

Who has access to the parsed data?

We are well aware that the data parsed from your e-mails has a unique value for your business and that you don't want to share it with anyone. All incoming e-mails and parsed data are therefore kept confidential and are not accessible by anyone else than you. For support purposes, our staff might need to access your data, however. As stated in our Security Statement This will only happen if you request help with the setup.

Where are the servers and are they properly secured?

mailparser.io is running on the Amazon Webservices Cloud. The data center is located in the United States in North Carolina. All servers are always up-to-date with the latest security releases. A full backup is made on a daily basis and all data is constantly stored on different hard drives to prevent data loss in case of a hardware failure.
