General Settings in WPtouch Pro 4

Mobile Site Title

This option allows you to change the title of your site as it appears in the header of your mobile theme.

Display

This option allows the mobile theme to be displayed or hidden from view. This is useful for making small adjustments to your live theme’s settings. BraveNewCode recommends all WordPress development be safely conducted in a development (or “sandbox”) environment.

URL Filtering can be used to show WPtouch Pro on specific URLS, or disable WPtouch Pro on specific URLs. Select the option from the dropdown menu and enter a URL fragment (/sample-page). Click the "+" sign to filter the URL.

Enable "Require exact match" if you have similar URLs. For example, if you would like to filter /sample-page, but don't want to filter /sample-page-part-2, you would enable the option "Require exact match".

Landing Pages

In WPtouch Pro you can choose a custom landing page (a.k.a. home page) for your mobile theme while leaving your desktop theme’s home page unchanged.

To choose a landing page for WPtouch Pro, select from the options:

  • WordPress Reading Settings
WPtouch Pro will use the static front page settings defined in WordPress Settings > Reading.
  • Redirect to a page
Select from the dropdown menu an existing WordPress page to be used as the landing page for your mobile theme.
  • Redirect to a custom URL
Enter the slug (i.e. “/home”) or full URL to a post or page from your WordPress installation.

Note: You will need pretty URLs enabled in your WordPress Permalink settings for the custom landing page feature to function completely.

For extensive home page customizations that may not be possible within the WordPress editor, a custom template may be created. See Templates for Pages in the “Custom Page Templates” documentation for more information on using custom templates to create a home page.

You can select a custom Posts page (blog). This is useful when the desktop theme is using a custom page to display the latest posts. WPtouch Pro allows you to select any existing WordPress page to be used as the posts page.

Desktop / Mobile Switching

The Theme switch toggle option controls the toggle in both the desktop mobile theme footers allowing users to switch between them.

The theme switch does not display nor function in Web-App Mode.

Page Zoom

This setting option allows you to enable or disable pinch and zoom capabilities on your mobile site. This setting is disabled by default in WPtouch Pro.

Smart App Banner

If you have an app available for download on Apple's App Store, you may enter its app ID and WPtouch Pro will display its Smart App Banner above the header of your mobile theme. You may locate your App Store ID through Apple's Link Maker tool: http://itunes.apple.com/linkmaker/. This feature is currently only available for iOS.

Analytics

You may add your Google Analytics site ID (UA-XXXXXXX-XX) or enter the entire code Google provides by selecting the Custom option.

You may also add custom CSS or JavaScript when selecting the Custom option. When adding custom styling, be sure to wrap your code in style tags for it to be recognized. The recommend way of adding custom CSS to your mobile theme can be seen here - Adding custom styling to your mobile theme.

WPtouch Pro Love

When enabled, there will be a "Powered by..." message in the footer area of the WPtouch Pro theme. Thank you!

Language

The Language options in WPtouch Pro allow you to manage the language the mobile theme uses in its admin interface and in the mobile theme.

WPtouch Pro comes bundled with a selection of languages. Additional translations may be added as desired. See Translating WPtouch Pro

The default setting is “Auto-detect” which detects the language your WordPress installation uses and adjusts accordingly. To activate a new language for your WPtouch Pro admin panel and for supported mobile themes, select from the dropdown menu and save the setting.

  • Default (same as WordPress)

  • Select from WordPress Pages
Select from the dropdown menu an existing WordPress page to be used as the landing page for your mobile theme.

Desktop / Mobile Switching

“Show switch link in mobile view” enables the theme switch in the footer of the mobile theme. The theme switch allows visitors to choose between viewing your mobile and desktop themes on the mobile device. Deactivating the switch prevents users from switching to your desktop theme.

“Desktop theme switch buttons” allows you to choose the method WPtouch Pro will use to insert the theme switch in your desktop theme.

  • “Automatically inserted inline” will add the switch to the footer of the desktop theme. This method relies on the presence of the following footer template tag in the desktop theme:

    <?php wp_footer(); ?>

  • “Automatically inserted with AJAX” offers an option that optimizes page load speed in conjunction with some caching software.
  • “Template tag” allows you to insert the theme switch wherever you like in your desktop theme by including the following template tag in your header, footer or page/post templates:

    <a href="<?php wptouch_desktop_switch_link(); ?>">Switch to Mobile Theme</a>

The theme switch does not display nor function in Web-App Mode.

Custom Code

WPtouch Pro offers a field where you may quickly and easily add code to be appended to the footer code of your mobile theme. You may include HTML or JavaScript formats, including CSS and statistics tracking script like Google Analytics. When adding custom styling, be sure to wrap your code in style tags for it to be recognized.

Backup & Import

WPtouch Pro’s settings are saved in your database. For added security or for use when migrating your installation, you may choose to backup your settings. When automatic backups are enabled, WPtouch Pro will regularly create and save a maximum of ten backups of your settings on your server.

In a single WordPress installation, automatically backed up settings are saved as .txt files in the /wp-content/wptouch-data/backups/ directory.

In a WordPress network installation, the backup directory is located inside the sub-site’s directory: /wp-content/wptouch-data/YOUR_SUBSITE_ID/backups/.

WPtouch Pro Backups Directory

You may download the latest backup of your settings directly from the WPtouch Pro admin panel.

You may restore backed-up settings with the “Restore Backup File” tool. When you choose a previously downloaded .txt file from your hard drive, your current WPtouch Pro settings will be overwritten.

Download/Import Backup File

Preview Theme

Preview Theme allows you to simulate your mobile theme in your Safari or Chrome desktop browser. The preview tool opens a smartphone-sized window in your browser that allows you to see how your mobile theme will look on an iPhone-sized mobile device. This tool offers an approximation only. Touch-based functions such as slider control will not be active. Preview is available for logged-in admin-level users only.
